For historical purposes, I've chosen to record my engagement story while it's fresh in my mind.
First off, I will preface by stating that I never believed I would get engaged. I was honestly content (Rob would beg to differ) dating and seeing each other once or twice per week.
Although, I know that Rob was concerned that I would not be able to wait much longer, I had no intention of ever leaving him. Once you've found the person who completes your heart, there are no other options but to be patient.
I've prayed for patience for the past year. I dreamt of being engaged. I dreamt of showing off my ring, bragging about my fiancé, planning our wedding, moving in together etc.
So three days prior, our friend, Brianne, invited us to attend a dinner for one of her husband's clients. She begged us to attend so they were not "alone". Personally, I did not want to go because I'm just as content staying at home and renting a redbox movie.
However, I waited until that evening to ask Rob about attending the dinner function where Brianne had told me that "governor's" may be there. So, in my head, we would be dining with Rick Perry!!
Rob agreed with me that we should attend because he didn't want to disappoint Clint and Brianne.
The morning off, Brianne and I went to get a "mani/pedi" in preparation for our dinner date that night. Afterwards, I returned home to watch the movie "The waitress" which a patient had let me borrow.
So, around 4pm, Rob came over to my apartment and I started getting ready for dinner.
We left about 5:30pm for the city of Ennis, TX. Up to this point, no-one seemed to know where this dinner was going to be held.
As we drove the long two hours to Athens (completely not Ennis), we finally pulled up to the 4.5 million dollar house to dine with the governor.
We got out of the car where Clint was waiting to escort us to the backside of the house. I was wondering where everyone had parked because there were no cars in the driveway.
We turned the corner and across from the pool were about ten people with their backs facing us. I recognized one of our friends, Adrian, and asked Rob if that was her. He didn't answer me.
All of sudden, they all turned around and held up huge whiteboard signs that stated, "Jodi Clee-Will-You-Marry-Me?"
Shock.... I was in complete shock.... there was no blood flowing to my extremities. After I grasped the fact that I was being asked a question, I turned around to find my boyfriend down on his knee, holding open a tiny blue box with a shiny diamond ring. It was beautiful!!!!
Rob and I had never looked at rings, sized rings, thought of rings or had really spoken about getting engaged.
Every time the topic was brought up, we would end up arguing about my uterus getting older and I'd come to the decision that it was better not to talk about it.
Although my ring was slightly too big, it was the most perfect piece of jewelry that I have ever been given.
I am not a lavish person, ostentatious, materialistic and I would've accepted his proposal with a cracker jack box ring (even though he would tell you differently).
With the help of his best friends and family, Rob successfully pulled off the most beautiful engagement party I could have ever imagined. Brianne concocted an amazing meal with me in mind-pecan crusted chicken, broccoli and cauliflower. Although the cardiogenic shock I was experiencing prevented me from licking the plate clean, the taste of everything was indescribable.
I've waited 31 years to get engaged.... waited and waited and waited.
I knew five years ago that I wanted to marry Rob. I have only ever been wanted to be engaged one time. I only want to be married one time. I only want to know one husband.
Rob never does anything impulsively and when he decides to do something, he does it completely and wholeheartedly.
I could not be any prouder to be engaged to him. He is the hardest working, loyal, funny, most incredibly handsome man that I have ever met. I've told him before that if I pictured the perfect male specimen in my head, he is what I would imagine. His blue eyes and blonde hair, tan skin and athletic build will forever be mine from August 18, 2014 forwards. Thanks be to God!
